Changes to Support in Sheltered Housing

Somerset County Council’s contracts for Support in Sheltered Housing schemes is due to end in October 2018. Therefore we are undertaking this consultation between the 3rd April and 30th May to seek the views of a wide range of people, both users and non-users of the service, to discuss the different ways in which the Council could provide these services in future. Currently the County Council partially funds Sheltered Housing Providers to help tenants to manage their day to day requirements. This can include assisting with correspondence; helping to pay bills or manage the household budget. They also help to arrange appointments and help to plan shopping or meals. This does not include tenancy, alarms systems or emergency response.

Somerset County Council are proposing to reduce the funding for those that currently receive support in sheltered housing by 100% and reinvest into the current Community Connect Model so support is available to everyone and not just those in sheltered housing.

We want to hear peoples views about our proposal. In order to take part please spare some time to read the detailed consultation document below. We have also produced a separate document specifically aimed at Sheltered Housing tenants. Both of these documents along with an Equalities Impact Assessment can be found further down this page under consultation documents. You can then complete the consultation questionnaire by clicking on the 'respond by filling in the online questionnaire' link below.

The questionnaire will be anonymous and if you require any of the documentation in hard copy, alternative languages or format please contact.
